Whose Glory?

As we learned last week, every song, regardless the genre, conveys either a positive or negative message.

Right. Now, who is that message talking about? What's the singer trying to achieve through that song, personal interests, promote or glorify himself? Or is he trying to glorify God?

WHOSE GLORY?

God created music. The angels praise Him. That's how God intended things to be, that is how it was supposed to be from the beginning, until Adam and Eve's naiveté.

The devil, as we already know, has always envied God. He wants to destroy everything God created. Why should he overlook music, knowing that it has a huge effect on human beings?

Well, he didn't. He realized that music is a powerful weapon to influence the soul (EMOTIONS). Hence, he indulges himself in the lyrics of a song that promotes promiscuity, rebellion, lust and in messages of love, hatred and passion. What a mess???

Now think, can God be glorified by such music? No. Then who gets the glory? You know.

The singer and the devil himself.

If I tell you how many youths have told me they want to get into the music industry, you won't believe. Youths who come to church. I've always asked them why. I've always made them think whether that is an inspiration coming from God or a personal objective.

Most of the times it's personal.

So, next time you listen to a particular song remember: WHOSE GLORY?

This is very true Pr.Luke. Many times we don't realize what we're listening to. We might be jammin to something that glorifies Satan with out even knowing. We have to be careful and whatch what kind of music we hear.

This is so true; nowadays it is no longer easy to know exactly who we can trust and which music is “safe”. Even though people say that we shouldn’t always believe what is being said about music artists, if we don’t have any proof...but we know the devil’s plan, and that he is using music to destroy many people’s lives, especially youths as was mentioned.
So we really have to ask God for the Spirit of discernment, so that we chose the right type of music, and when we listen to any song, we will enjoy it and God will be the one receiving the glory.

It's true. I used to be one of the youths who would listen to a song with horrible lyrics, sing along with the song, but say "Oh I would never do that"
Then what's the whole point in even listening to it!!!?
Music is a scapegoat for many people out there, why not listen to something that inspires you to do greater things, rather than to "get low, low, low, low."

A song can reach places in this Earth all at once in a small time. A song can touch the hearts of people from diferent cultures and that speak diferent languages. No wonder the devil invested big on the music industry.

Let's help to promote songs that make a difference and that glorifies God. Songs that encourage and make you think about your life.

I enjoy music very much. I think about music most of the time. But the music that plays in my head and that I sing is music that helps to build me up, to make me stronger and help me conect with God. If I could just play music and sing all day, I would do it, but not to please others, but to reach as many people as I possibly could with the Good News.

This post has stayed in my mind since I first read it. I am always reminded when I listen to songs... "Whose glory?"
I have a mixed cd that I burned not too long ago that has some non-Christian songs that I thought were ok but even today, paying more attention to them, I couldn't really listen to them...

Gotta burn some new cd's now to listen to in my car....

It is sad but true, most of the music out there give glory to the devil. While Americans, a quote unquote Christian nation revel in it. The rest of the world is not far behind, prasing the most twisted and corrupt lyrics. Little do they know who they praise... ouch.

I remember this! I used to listen to so many songs and would sing along and not even notice the non-sense i was saying! Even now we need to be more careful of the songs we listen to because we can be listening to it and not even realize the horrible message that is behind it all! Singers mix a nice soothing beat that sounds so beautiful to our human ears, but to our mind and soul it's feeding nothing but trash!

Hi Pastor Luke,

It is true, how can we say that we want to glorify God through all of our actions if we listen to songs that are completely negative and promote all the wrong messages.
"WHOSE GLORY?", definitely a very strong question that we must ask ourselves every time we listen to music. Thank you for this message.

Sincerely,
Kenia Rivas

Very strong Pr. Luke. Indeed, music is one of the most powerful weapons that the devil uses to stir teenagers to a life of misery. Its amazing how a simple beat or lyrics can make a person what to something that they normally wouldn't do!

Music nowadays is something real big. So much so that even "churches'" prioritize their worship sessions! When I listen to music from now on, I will ask myself "who's glory?"

Thanks!

Very true,Pr Luke.
We shouldn't let music take over our feelings and emotions.
The next time I listen to a song I'll ask myself "Is this song for Gods glory, or for the devils glory??"....

Thanks for the post Pr. Luke. Now I will know what to tell the youths. When I hear the type of music they hear I ask them what you do like of this song? The wording is horrible, and their answer is the beat we like the rythm. How the youth can be deaf to the good and listen clearly to the bad.
